Privacy Policy for Apps

Version: November 2019

Statement in “Human Words”

All our apps and tools are intended for use “as is”.
If you choose to use our apps and tools, then it is important that you read and agree with the terms laid out in this privacy policy.

All our apps are made for the described purpose. Therefore there are no ads, marketing features or hidden personal data collection.
Any collected information will not be sold or shared with any other third party.

Purpose of Data Collection

For the reason of keeping our apps stable and reliable, for validating the license (if the app is license protected) and for supporting development with some anonymized telemetry, automated data transmission is necessary. If not stated otherwise, our apps are sending data for (one of) these purposes:

Automated Update-Check

On every start, the app is contacting our web server to check if a newer version is available.
Transmission is TLS/SSL encrypted. Except for your IP address (see section Server log files), no personal data is sent to our web server.

License-Validation and -Renewal

If the app is protected by a license key, on every start the app is contacting our web server to check if the license is valid and renews the lifetime.
Transmission is TLS/SSL encrypted. Except for your IP address (see section Server log files) and the license identifier, no personal data is sent to our web server.

Anonymized Telemetry

General system information about devices (such as device type and operating system) and basic anonymous usage statistics (like “feature X was used Y times”) are necessary to optimize the software, find bugs, fix crashes and determine what features are desireable for future releases. Microsoft AppCenter is used to provide the necessary tools.
All information sent to App Center is TLS/SSL encrypted, anonymous and free of any user or contextual data.

This section is an addition to the main privacy policy at http://www.mschoeffmann.com/legal/privacy/ to cover usage of the provided apps and tools.

3. Data collection in our apps

All our apps and tools do not require you to provide us with any personally identifiable information and will not collect any such information from your device. All data that you enter into the our apps and tools will be stored on your device and any backup storage system you use (e.g. Apple’s iCloud) and only accessible on your device and any other devices with access to your backup storage system. Neither the developer, nor any other party will have access to this data other than who has direct access to your device or your backup storage.

Server log files

The website provider automatically collects and stores information that your browser automatically transmits to us in “server log files”. These are:

  • Browser type and browser version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL
  • Host name of the accessing computer
  • Time of the server request
  • IP address

These data will not be combined with data from other sources.

The basis for data processing is Art. 6 (1) (f) DSGVO. The website operator has a legitimate interest to ensure an optimized service provided free of technical errors. Therefore server log files have to be stored.

Further information about our server can be found at the main privacy policy at http://www.mschoeffmann.com/legal/privacy/.

Usage data

We want to inform you that whenever you use our apps and tools, we may collect data and information, through a third party. This may include information such as your operating system version, the configuration of the app, the time and date of your use of the app, and other usage statistics. This data is passed on to a third party (the Microsoft App Center) who automatically create a unique installation identifier (or install ID for short) when you install our apps and tools. This install ID makes it possible for their services to display and return meaningful information for a specific device.

They do not map your identity or any personal information to install IDs. This data is stored securely and there is no way by which we or any other third party are able to identify you through this information. This data will be given to the app developer who will use it for analytics purposes. The Microsoft App Center may also collect data relating to things such as geographic area (such as the country in which you installed the app, not a specific location), operating system, device model and screen resolution, for the purpose of creating generalised audience statistics. Again this data will be stored securely and it will not be possible to identify you through this information.

Usage data is stored no longer than 90 days.

The legal basis for the use and evaluation of the data and the use of Microsoft AppCenter is a legitimate interest in the analysis, optimisation and economic operation of our app within the scope of point (f) of Article 6(1) of the GDPR.

Further information about Microsoft AppCenter can be found at https://www.appcenter.ms and in Microsoft’s privacy policy at https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement.
